Drinking Wife's Breast Milk

Is it halal to drink wife’s breast milk? – Whether a husband becomes a Mahram (a person who is permanently unmarriageable) to his wife’s relatives by drinking her milk.

The answer is no, because the only breastfeeding that creates the relationship of mahram is the one that happens in the first two years of life, and it has to be at least five times. This is based on the Quran and the Sunnah, the sources of Islamic law.

Is it halal to drink wife’s breast milk? – Rulings related to breastfeeding in Islam

We need to start by stating some essential points about the rulings related to breastfeeding before we can answer this question.

  1. Breastfeeding is confirmed in the Quran and Sunnah, and by the consensus of the scholars. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“your foster mothers who gave you suck, your foster milk suckling sisters…” [al-Nisa 4:23]

Ibn ‘Abbas narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

What is forbidden by suckling or breastfeeding is the same as what is forbidden by nasab (lineage).” (Reported by al-Bukhari, Muslim, 1444

The scholars concur that rada’ah (breastfeeding) has consequences for marriage and kinship. It prevents marriage and establishes the relationship of mahram, and allows seeing and being alone (with the people who are related through rada’ah).

  1. For breastfeeding to have the effect of transferring its benefits from the nursing woman to the child suckled, it must fulfill certain conditions, which are:
  2. The breastfeeding must occur within the first two years of the child’s life, because Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“The mothers shall give suck to their children for two whole years, (that is) for those (parents) who desire to complete the term of suckling…” [al-Baqarah 2:233]

  1. The number of breastfeedings must reach the known five feeds, in which the child eats his fill as if eating and drinking. If the child leaves the breast for a reason, such as to take a breath or to switch from one breast to the other, this (i.e., each separate time the child latches on) is not counted as one breastfeeding. This is the view of al-Shafi’i, and the view preferred by Ibn al-Qayyim.

Man drinking Wire’s breast milk during foreplay?

One of the natural ways of enjoying pleasure and foreplay is sucking the wife’s nipples.

As for drinking the wife’s milk, the scholars have a consensus that the husband does not become her son if he drinks her milk. The reason for this is that the woman becomes a mother only if she breastfeeds the child within the first two years of the child’s life, as that is the period of breastfeeding mentioned by the Qur’an [Qur’an 2:233].

Therefore, drinking the wife’s milk does not affect their marriage (nikah), as the husband does not become her son.
