Panda Express

Chinese-American cuisine has totally exploded from its humble beginnings in 1983 to become one of the biggest players in fast food today. John and Perry Cherng started out small with their American Chinese food in California. Now their chain rakes in over $3 billion a year with thousands of locations around the world! Wild how huge and popular this Panda Express thing has become, right?

Is Panda Express Halal?

IS Panda Express Halal In USA?

Panda Express doesn’t meet the bar for halal. None of their meat is certified halal according to Islamic guidelines. And they don’t prepare the food following Shariah laws either. So for Muslims trying to stick to halal eating, most of the menu at Panda Express is off limits. They just aren’t able to make their dishes in a way that works with halal standards. Too bad for fans wanting to enjoy some American Chinese cuisine without compromising their religious dietary rules. Guess those cravings for orange chicken will have to stay dreams for now!.

It should be noted that Panda Express’ website states,

Panda Express does not have any vegetarian, vegan or gluten free products

due to the cross contamination that can occur by using the same equipment.

A Panda Express representative told VegNews that while the dishes in Panda Express:

do not have animal product or byproduct, all items at Panda Express are cooked and prepped in the same shared facilities and equipment in store, so we have not claimed that our menu is vegetarian or vegan.

Panda Express Halal in UAE & Saudia Arabia?

Yes – In Muslim countries such as UAE & Saudi Arabia, Panda Express’s menu is 100% halal.

Why Is Panda Express Haram?

Sadly, Panda Express doesn’t cut it for the halal crowd. The big no-no is that they use pork in a bunch of menu items – totally off limits for Muslims. Their popular Orange Chicken, String Bean Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Kung Pao Chicken…all made with either straight up pork or ingredients cooked in pork fat.

They also cook some dishes with wine, like the Sweet and Sour Pork and Kung Pao Chicken. Alcohol is a firm forbidden in halal diets too.

So between the pork and booze, Panda Express just isn’t able to make the menu work for people sticking to Islamic dietary laws. Bummer for fans who’ll have to get their Chinese fix elsewhere!”
